21 day itinerary
Nairobi – Tsavo East
It’s a long drive today to our destination but there’s lots of culture to see along the way. We’ll make a stop for morning tea as we go and arrive at our lodge for a late lunch. After lunch you can leap into your own private plunge pool outside your tent and watch the wild animals pass by.
What a way to start a safari! Relax! Wine and dine over looking the lodge waterhole.
Tsavo East
It’s a full day game drive exploring the park. We take our morning tea on top of Mudanda Rock where we get a great view for miles. Tsavo is generally a hot, dry area so the waterholes within the park are where we’re most likely to find animals. The big cats are here along with the “ red elephants” who get their colour from the red earth found in this area.
Picnic lunch at a campsite followed by more seeking of wildlife. It’s back to the waterhole outside our lodge to enjoy a cold drink before dinner.
Tsavo East – Tsavo West
It’s a cruisy drive to get to Tsavo West. We arrive at the park entrance for morning tea before venturing inside and visiting Mzima Springs for a short guided walk. Here you might get lucky and see hippo and crocs.
Onward to the lodge for lunch. This gorgeous lodge overlooks an elevated waterhole where, at certain times of the year, it is teeming with wildlife. Afternoon game drive. Take in the floodlit waterhole as you enjoy your cold beverage before dinner.
Tsavo West – Amboseli
As we depart the park we will pass through the Shetani lava flow. This flow is 8km long and 1.6 km wide and was formed by an eruption only 200 years ago. You can get out and take a little stroll for a photo if you choose. We do a game drive from the lodge up to this point.
Arriving for lunch at our next lodge we now have a magnificent view of Mt Kilimanjaro (weather permitting). Our afternoon game drive takes us into the park where it is starkly different to where we have been. Amboseli is flat and open plains. There is an abundance of bird life and it is renown for the elephants that frequent the swamp areas. Flamingos have recently taken up home here too.
Amboseli
After breakfast we head off on a full day game drive in Amboseli National Park. Let’s go see what wants to be seen! Will Mt Kili be shining for us today?
Amboseli – Nairobi
We make our way back to the outskirts of Nairobi. After lunch we can relax before our evening dinner and Safari Catz SOUND AND DANCE show. Highly energetic, highly entertaining and one of the many highlights of your itinerary. In the meantime you can explore the expansive grounds of our hotel.
Nairobi – Ol Pejeta
We leave Nairobi after breakfast and make our way northward to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy where we arrive for lunch. Time then to relax before an afternoon game drive at 4pm. Here is the only place where you can do an optional night game drive. There’s a waterhole right outside your room where an abundance of animals gather to drink. Even the rhinos!
Ol Pejeta
After breakfast we visit the only two remaining Northern White Rhino on this earth. Return to camp with short game drive on the way. Lunch and afternoon to relax before another afternoon game drive. You have the opportunity to visit Jane Goodall's chimpanzee sanctuary if you wish. There are 32 individual wild dogs here and you might get lucky enough to spot them hunting.
Ol Pejeta – Samburu
It’s a transit day to Samburu on good, easy roads. We check in at the park entrance then do a game drive en route to the lodge. Samburu is dry, arid land with rocky formations surrounding the Ewaso Nyiro River which runs alongside our home for the next two nights.
Lunch then relax until our afternoon game drive. As you relax, you listen to the mellow sounds of running water beneath the shady trees. Ahhhh bliss...!
Samburu
Today is split into morning and afternoon game drives as the animals tend to hide from the hot mid day sun. In Samburu you have the opportunity to see grevy zebra, somali ostrich, gerenuk, vulturine guinea fowl and beisa oryx which you will not see in other places. The big cats prowl here too along with an abundance of bird life. Resident leopards can be seen just outside the lodge along with elephants.
Samburu – Aberdares
We’re on the road again and make our way to the Aberdares. Our lunch today will be at the Aberdare Country Club; a sister to the lodge where we will stay overnight. We will take with us an overnight bag only. Our main luggage will be held in locked storage at the Country Club until our return tomorrow morning.
We board a bus at 2.30pm which takes us 45 min to our accommodation within the Aberdare National Park. Here we will observe the wildlife at close range from one of four viewing decks or a cosy lounge chair. There is a dedicated photo hide on the lower deck where you are able to take close up, uninhibited photography.
Aberdares – Naivasha
After breakfast we leave the Ark Lodge at 8am on the bus and drive out of the park and back to Aberdare Country Club. If we get lucky and see animals before exiting the park we will make a stop. Leopards are often seen at this time.
At ACC we collect our main luggage and get on our way to our next destination. Along the way we stop at the Equator for a water demonstration. Morning tea stop is at Thompson Falls (named after the explorer who discovered the Aberdare Mountains and named them after his employer, Lord Aberdare; and who has the Thompson gazelle named after him).
Arrive at Lake Naivasha for lunch. Our afternoon is spent relaxing in the expansive 150 acre grounds of our accommodation. A resident giraffe, waterbuck, vervet and colobus monkeys wander around freely. Free time to enjoy!
Naivasha – Elementaita
After breakfast in Naivasha, we will be dropped off at the lakeside to enjoy a one and half hour boat ride around the lake. Our captain will provide bait fish to entice the mighty African Fish Eagle down from the tree tops. This freshwater lake is home to a wide variety of birds and a large population of hippo. You might even get to see the resident python lazing in the sunshine amongst the foliage.
After our boat ride, we’ll make a drive to Lake Elementaita and to our lodge for lunch. Afternoon to relax, take a swim in the pool or just listen to the birdlife.
Nakuru
Today we enjoy a full day game drive around the shores of Lake Nakuru. This is the only place you will be able to see the endangered Rothschild giraffe in its own habitat. White and black rhino also live here along with many other wildlife species.
We take a picnic lunch with us and depart the park in the afternoon making our way back to Lake Elementaita and the relaxed atmosphere on the waters’ edge.
Elementaita – Maasai Mara
We leave Elementaita after breakfast and make our way to the world famous Maasai Mara National Reserve. We stop along the way for a stretch and coffee break before arriving at the Reserve for a late lunch. There’s time to chill out before your afternoon game drive going in search of wild things.
At 4pm we head off into the park to seek out lions, leopard, cheetah, elephants or anything out there that wants to be seen. As the sun sets, we’ll arrive back at our lodge for hot showers and dinner. Later, lay your head on your pillow and wait for the sounds of lions calling their pride or hyenas cackling as you drift off to sleep. Lala vizuri!
Maasai Mara
For the next four days we leave the camp after breakfast and we take in this wonderful reserve. There are lots of areas to explore and find the big cats and other animals that reside here. Each day is spent full day game driving.
After a hearty breakfast to keep us going, we’ll explore the wonders of this park seeking out the best wildlife sightings for you. Each day is different and we’ll explore a different area each time. Our prime objective is to find the animals for you to enjoy. We’ll get in the best position possible for great photos without encroaching on the animals comfort and safety. We’ll make this your ultimate safari experience!
At the end of each day it’s back to the lodge to chill out and remember the magic of your discovery.
Maasai Mara – Nairobi
We bid farewell to our home for the past few days and head back to the bustle of the city. We’ll stop briefly in Narok to stretch our legs and have a comfort stop over coffee. A welcome cafe lunch ends our safari before dropping you back at your post safari accommodation.
